Festive Forest Trail

This December, Candleston Woods will be transformed into a world of light, colour and discovery. The Festive Forest Trail invites visitors to step into nature after dark – to wander beneath illuminated canopies and experience the quiet magic of winter in a new way.

It’s a celebration of midwinter magic and connection, where the natural beauty of the woodland meets a sense of wonder and warmth.

Every detail designed to evoke a feeling of enchantment: soft light through the trees, glimmers of starlight and moments that make you pause.

Tickets & Booking

How do I book tickets?
All tickets must be booked online in advance via Ticket Tailor.

Do I need to print my ticket?
No — we can scan your e-ticket from your phone. Please have your QR code ready when you arrive.

Can I change my booking time or date?
We’ll do our best to accommodate changes if there’s availability. Please email [email protected]at least 48 hours before your booking.

What does the Family pass include?

It includes two adult & two children (3-16yr) tickets only. It does not include the following: car parking pass, Sunday dog pass or Child 0-3yr pass. Please add these separately. 

What happens if it rains or the weather is bad?
The trail runs in all weather conditions. In wet weather, please dress appropriately — waterproof clothing and footwear are recommended! In extreme weather where it’s unsafe to open, we’ll contact ticket holders with alternative dates or refund options.

Can I get a refund if I can’t make it?
Tickets are non-refundable unless the event is cancelled by us.

Do children need tickets?
Yes, every person entering needs a ticket.

Do carers need to pay?
Registered carers accompanying a paying guest can attend free of charge. Please bring valid ID or documentation.

Event Details

How long does the trail take?
The trail takes around 45–60 minutes to walk at a gentle pace, depending on your group and how long you pause at displays.

What time should we arrive?
Please arrive 10–15 minutes before your booked time slot. Entry slots are in place to manage capacity.

Where is Candleston Woods?
We’re located next to the Merthyr Mawr Sand Dunes near Bridgend. Use postcode CF32 0LS and follow signage from Merthyr Mawr village.

Is there parking on site?
Yes — Please purchase a parking pass and upon arrival, follow the marshals. Overflow parking may be used on busy nights.

Will there be food and drink available?
Yes — our Forest Barn café & bar will be open, serving hot drinks, mulled wine, festive treats and light bites.
We’ll also have a small selection of local food traders.

Can I bring my own food or drink?
Outside food and alcohol aren’t permitted within the trail area.

Can I bring my dog?

Yes — dogs are welcome.  To keep things safe and enjoyable for everyone, a free “Dog Ticket” must be booked in advance (limited numbers per session). Maximum two dogs per adult, and they must stay on a short, non-extendable lead at all times.

Please clean up after your dog and be mindful that the trail includes lights, sounds, and crowds — if your pet may find this stressful, it’s best they stay home.
XL Bully and banned breeds are not permitted.

Is the trail suitable for pushchairs or wheelchairs?
The trail follows woodland paths which may be uneven or muddy, especially in wet weather. All-terrain pushchairs are recommended. Please contact us in advance to discuss any specific accessibility requirements.

Are there toilets on site?
Yes — toilets are available near the entrance and inside the main event area, including accessible facilities.

Is there somewhere to warm up after the walk?
Yes — you can relax by the fire pits, under stretch tents or visit the Forest Barn café for hot chocolate, mulled wine and snacks.

Will there be music or entertainment?
Yes! Expect festive music, twinkling lights, and woodland magic throughout your journey.

Can we visit The Outdoor Sauna & Spa?
Yes — pre-booked spa experiences are available separately via The Outdoor Sauna & Spa. Perfect for a date night/ cosy evening treat with friends after the trail. Please note, only available for 16yrs+

Will photographs be taken during the event?
Yes, there may be official event photography and videography. By entering the event, you consent to being included in images used for promotional purposes.
